Six-legged Console Table     in     “All” Next Piece Previous Piece

Material

Tasmanian Myrtle

Description

A reinterpretation of the elegant turned timber legs often found in Victorian-era furniture, this console table subverts what we think we know about proportion and symmetry. Six legs instead of the usual four allows the turned elements to develop a rhythmic repetition, resulting in a dramatic base that plays with light and shadow.

In its final form, the console table feels both familiar and unexpected—grounded in tradition but firmly positioned in the present. The simplicity of the tabletop put the focus on the legs, honouring the artistry of the past while questioning the parameters that have long defined how furniture should be made.

“I’ve been studying the turned legs of Victorian furniture and thinking about how they can be used in a totally different way to sit comfortably within today’s approach to furniture—and living. This piece is a direct result of that exploration.”
